Deep Tissue Massage is a slow, conscious approach, with careful manipulation of soft tissue distinguishes Deep Tissue Massage from other forms of body work.

It increases relaxation, flexibility, efficiency of muscle metabolism, and leads to general well-being.

Compressive force is applied to muscles to cause a resetting of the muscles' spindle cells (nerve cells that determine muscle length and contraction). This allows previously taut muscles to relax, and to regain their proper length and tension. When muscles are chronically shortened, they block blood and lymph flow to an area, depriving it of the nutrients needed for life.

Deep Tissue Massage restores blood flow to muscles that have been damaged and oxygen-deprived. The muscles are then able to heal. The muscles are also enabled to move against and across each other more easily. The stroking motion also helps to flush out waste products and toxins, such as lactic acid, which are causes of soreness. Some soreness is common for a day or so after Deep Tissue Massage, as these wastes are moved from the body.

By relieving chronic patterns of stress and tension in the body, Deep Tissue Massage allows healing and increased mobility. An overall sense of well-being often results.
